Maura Higgins Set to Star as Bachelorette After Show Cancelled Over Frankie Paul Arrest

Published

The cancellation of the latest season of The Bachelorette has triggered internal restructuring at ABC, with Maura Higgins emerging as the leading candidate to take over a franchise facing reputational challenges.

The disruption centres on Taylor Frankie Paul, who had already completed filming as the lead for season 22 before the network abruptly pulled the show days before its scheduled premiere. The decision followed public attention on a 2023 domestic violence incident involving her former partner, with footage that resurfaced leading to criticism.

ABC responded by cancelling the broadcast. Despite having invested heavily in production, promotion and scheduling, the network confirmed it would not proceed, citing concern for those involved and the impact of airing a season tied to an active legal controversy. The move raises questions about the future of the franchise, already under pressure from declining ratings and changing audience habits.

It halted a fully produced season and disrupted ABC’s primetime schedule, forcing executives into emergency planning to replace an established reality format. It also highlighted how off-screen issues can affect the show.

Paul’s casting was presented as a change in casting approach. She was the first lead drawn from outside the traditional Bachelor ecosystem, brought in with an existing audience from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. That visibility, however, increased the reaction once the footage resurfaced, linking the show to the controversy.

Maura Higgins is being considered, a reality television figure with existing audience recognition. Known for Love Island and more recently The Traitors, Higgins represents a different casting choice rather than a direct replacement.

Reports around her potential casting are based on speculation rather than confirmation. Following the cancellation, attention has focused on whether ABC may explore a revised format, potentially including a live version, with Higgins as the lead. Her response, limited to a brief social media reaction, has kept attention on the speculation.

Higgins differs in that her public profile is already established through reality television. Unlike Paul’s situation, which brought off-screen issues into focus, Higgins is not currently linked to controversy that could affect production.

Even with a replacement, there are broader concerns. Recasting a lead does not resolve the issues exposed by the cancellation. Reports suggest ABC is weighing whether to revive the format, with some indicating the franchise could face a hiatus or end if issues persist.

Audience interest is also a concern. Bringing in a known personality like Higgins may maintain short-term interest, but it continues a change away from the show’s original premise of introducing unknown participants into a structured format.

Higgins remains not confirmed. ABC has not announced a replacement lead or clarified whether the cancelled season will be reworked or cancelled.

The franchise has changed. The cancellation has led to changes where casting decisions are now influenced by risk management, public scrutiny and the ability to sustain a production after release.

If Higgins steps into the role, it will be as the person responsible for helping the show recover, at a time when it is unlikely to return in its previous form.

Romeo Beckham is taking a new step in his career, moving from the fashion world to the big screen with his first acting role in the upcoming queer sports drama Forty Love.

The 23-year-old, who has built a profile as a model after stepping away from football, has been cast in the tennis-centred romance alongside French actors Paul Kircher, Guillaume Canet and Benjamin Voisin. The project marks Beckham’s first screen role.

Forty Love follows rising tennis player Sacha Gallo, played by Paul Kircher, as he prepares for a major tournament in Paris under the guidance of his father. The story centres on the relationship that develops when a new rival enters his life. Beckham plays the competitor whose arrival changes both the dynamics of the competition and Sacha’s personal life.

The film explores the connection between the two players alongside the pressures of professional sport.

The film is directed by Pierre-Ange Carlotti, a fashion photographer making his feature directorial debut. Carlotti co-wrote the screenplay, and the cast also includes Catherine Deneuve. The production is backed by Chi-Fou-Mi Productions, with Studiocanal and Manna Studios serving as co-producers.

For Beckham, the role represents another career shift. After spending parts of his youth in football systems linked to Arsenal, Inter Miami and Brentford, he increasingly focused on fashion, working with luxury labels and appearing on major runways and campaigns.

The casting marks Beckham’s first move into acting after establishing himself in the fashion industry. The choice of project has attracted attention because it differs from the more conventional routes often taken by celebrity offspring entering the film industry. The film is scheduled to open in French cinemas on 25 November, with international distribution plans expected to follow. It will mark Beckham’s first appearance in a feature film.

Noah Price became widely known after marrying Venezuela Fury, the eldest daughter of heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury. Their wedding on 16 May drew major media attention because of the Fury family’s public profile8, the couple’s age and Noah’s background as a young amateur boxer.

Price is from Chesterfield and competes in amateur boxing. Reports state that he previously won the East Midlands title in the 91kg youth division while representing Chesterfield ABC. Before his relationship with Venezuela Fury became public, he was largely known within amateur boxing circles rather than mainstream entertainment media.

Unlike members of the Fury family, Noah has maintained a limited public presence online. Most public interest surrounding him has come through his relationship with Venezuela, particularly following the family’s Netflix series, At Home With the Furys.

Reports claim the couple first connected through Instagram while they were teenagers. Noah later began appearing more frequently alongside the Fury family, and public discussion around the relationship increased after the pair became engaged during Venezuela Fury’s 16th birthday celebrations in 2025.

Their wedding ceremony on the Isle of Man received widespread coverage across British tabloids and entertainment outlets. Reports described a large celebration featuring 18 bridesmaids, extensive floral arrangements and a performance by Peter Andre. Several outlets also suggested that the wedding may feature in a future season of the family’s reality series.

Much of the public reaction has focused on the couple’s age. Venezuela Fury is 16, while Noah Price has been reported by different outlets as either 18 or 19. The marriage has prompted debate online, particularly outside Traveller communities where marrying young is less common in wider British society.

Although Noah Price is now closely associated with the Fury family name, he is still at an early stage in his boxing career. Tyson and Paris Fury have publicly supported the relationship, with Paris previously describing Noah as “a really nice young man” during interviews discussed by entertainment publications.

Recent reports also stated that the newlyweds moved into a luxury static caravan in Yorkshire shortly after their wedding, choosing to live independently following the ceremony.

For now, Noah Price remains best known through his connection to the Fury family. Whether public attention continues is likely to depend on both his boxing career and the couple’s growing media profile.
