Why the Kardashians Stopped Hosting Their Famed Christmas Eve Party

Published

on

For years, the Kardashian-Jenner Christmas Eve party was less a family gathering and more a large-scale production. What began as a modest tradition hosted by Kris Jenner in the late 1970s grew into an annual event that rivalled Hollywood premieres, complete with celebrity guest lists, themed décor and budgets that reportedly climbed as high as $1.3 million during its most elaborate years.

But in recent holiday seasons, something shifted. The celebration continued, without the elaborate production that once defined it. The reasons have less to do with money or fading relevance and more to do with logistics, timing and a family whose circumstances have changed.

At its peak, the Christmas Eve party required months of planning. Costs were typically split among the siblings, and each year came with pressure to outdo the last. The most expensive editions, widely reported during Kim Kardashian’s marriage to Kanye West, included artificial snow installations, custom-built sets, live performances and enough catering and security to support hundreds of guests.

That scale became harder to justify as the family’s lives grew more complex. Multiple Kardashian homes were undergoing major renovations at the same time, leaving no single residence fully equipped to host an event of that size. Hosting hundreds of guests is not simply about space; it requires finished kitchens, accessible layouts, parking logistics and strict security coordination. Without a suitable venue, the production model stopped making sense.

Timing also played a role. In recent years, the family has hosted several major celebrations outside the festive period, including milestone birthdays that demanded the same level of planning and expense once reserved for Christmas Eve. Staging two large-scale events within weeks of each other proved impractical, given the level of planning required.

There is also the issue of growth. As the Kardashian-Jenner children have got older, the guest list has expanded organically. What was once a controlled, invite-only gathering became harder to manage as children wanted to include friends and extended circles widened. The party was no longer just a family tradition; it had become an operational challenge.

Publicly, Kim Kardashian has described recent gatherings as smaller and more family-focused. She has been clear that the tradition itself has not ended, only the format. The emphasis has shifted from hosting the industry to hosting each other.

Recent coverage reflects that change. Instead of headline-driven guest lists, attention has centred on family attendance, outfits and scaled-back settings. The party still happens, but it no longer functions as a social checkpoint for the celebrity calendar.

What is notable is the absence of any formal announcement. There was no declaration that the party was over. It simply changed. The Kardashian-Jenner Christmas Eve celebration stopped trying to be an event and returned, to being a gathering.

The change reflects a reassessment of what the tradition needs to be.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce exchanged vows during a private wedding ceremony, marking a new chapter in their relationship after months of speculation about their plans to marry.

The couple married during a private ceremony at Madison Square Garden in New York on Friday, surrounded by family, friends and guests from the worlds of music, film and sport.

A notable moment during the ceremony came as Swift walked down the aisle to an orchestral arrangement of one of her own songs. Instead of a traditional bridal march, she chose music from her own catalogue, adding a personal touch before the vows were exchanged.

The couple did not have a traditional bridal party. Swift’s brother, Austin, served as her Man of Honour, while Kelce’s brother, Jason, was Best Man. The ceremony was officiated by actor Adam Sandler.

According to reports, the couple’s vows included both emotional moments and humour. Guests said the vows reflected their relationship and included light-hearted jokes alongside their promises to one another.

Swift wore a custom Christian Dior Haute Couture wedding gown designed by Jonathan Anderson, paired with Cartier jewellery and Christian Louboutin shoes. Kelce wore a custom Dior suit for the ceremony.

Security around the event was tight, with guests reportedly asked to leave their phones behind to protect the couple’s privacy. The venue was kept secret until guests began arriving.

Guests included Ed Sheeran, Gigi Hadid, Hugh Grant and several NFL players, reflecting the couple’s connections across entertainment and professional sport.

Swift and Kelce have been together since 2023. Their engagement in 2025 prompted widespread speculation about when and where they would marry, with fans closely following developments before the ceremony.

Swift’s decision to walk down the aisle to one of her own songs became one of the defining moments of the wedding, giving the ceremony a personal element that reflected the couple’s approach to the occasion.

Hailey Bieber is the newest face of Skims’ Everyday Cotton campaign, appearing in a campaign for a collection built around wardrobe staples rather than trend-driven pieces.

The model and Rhode founder fronts the latest campaign for the brand’s cotton collection, bringing her signature off-duty style to imagery centred on comfort, fit and everyday wear. Photographed by Mert Alas, the campaign presents Bieber in a series of cotton bras, bralettes and underwear sets designed for daily use. The styling remains minimal, reflecting the direction Skims has taken with its Everyday Cotton range since the collection was introduced earlier this year.

Among the featured pieces are the Triangle Bralette, Hipster, Thong and other core styles from the collection. The campaign also introduces the soft pink “Peony” shade, which appears alongside the neutral colours that have become a defining part of the Skims identity.

Kim Kardashian, co-founder and chief creative officer of Skims, said Bieber was a suitable choice for the campaign because of her ability to make simple essentials feel current and relevant. The partnership continues the brand’s approach of pairing recognisable personalities with product-focused campaigns that highlight its core collections rather than seasonal fashion trends.

In statements released alongside the campaign, Bieber described quality basics as the foundation of her wardrobe and praised the Everyday Cotton range for its comfort, softness and versatility. According to Bieber, these are pieces she wears regularly because they can be worn in different settings.

The Everyday Cotton collection was launched in February as a permanent addition to the Skims catalogue. The range includes ten bra and underwear styles available in an extended size range, reinforcing the brand’s focus on accessibility and everyday practicality.

The campaign also marks Bieber’s first major Skims partnership despite her long-standing connection to the Kardashian-Jenner circle. It places her at the centre of one of the label’s key product categories.

The collection focuses on everyday basics intended for repeated wear, a message reflected throughout the campaign. The launch highlights practical wardrobe essentials and the continued expansion of Skims’ cotton range.
