3 Makeup Tutorials for Beginners

Published

on

Makeup is an amazing tool for changing not only your appearance but also boosting confidence and self-expression. With so many products available, beginners often find it difficult to make a choice and struggle to know where to begin. However, with a little effort and patience, anyone can learn the basics of makeup and open up a world of creativity and self-discovery.

As a beginner, it’s important to remember that your face is unique, and so is your view of makeup. Makeup is about enhancing your natural beauty, not covering up your flaws. By embracing this mindset, you’ll be able to unlock your full potential and discover a more confident, beautiful you.

Truth is, your makeup journey will be so much easier if you figure out your own special makeup routine and know which options best suit you. Since makeup is so personal, there’s no one ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to apply it; it’s best to experiment and find what works best for you.

Are you new to makeup? If so, the makeup world may seem extremely frightening. Knowing a product’s contents, suitability for your skin type, and application is key. With that said, here are simple ways to apply makeup as a beginner. Remember, it’s not just about the makeup, it’s also about your confidence.

Natural Look:

The goal of this look is to highlight your natural qualities without hiding them.

1. Prep your skin with a moisturizer, this helps to hydrate your skin before makeup application.

2. Apply foundation using a brush or beauty sponge, but its advisable to use a beauty sponge for even and smooth blend. (concealer also can be used, remember with concealer use a shade or two lighter than your foundation.)

3. Use blush on cheek, blend for an even look, so its not heavy on one side.

4. Draw your eyebrow, when drawing your eyebrows follow the natural line of your face. They should start where your nose meets the bridge, and end at the outer corner of your eye. To fill them in, use a pencil or gel that’s the same color as your hair.

5. Eyes, apply a warm shade of eyeshadow and use mascara for your lashes.

6. Finish off your look with a nude lip gloss.

Bold Lip:

Using a bold lip color can be a great way to make a statement. Select a lip color—such as crimson, caramel, plum, or bright red—that goes well with your skin tone. First, prep your lip with a lip primer to keep your lips hydrated. Use a lipliner that matches the color of your lipstick to line your lips, this will keep your lipstick from spreading or bleeding and also define your lips. Fill in your lips, make sure the rest of your makeup is neutral and basic to counterbalance your dramatic lip. If you prefer a glossy finish, add a lip gloss.

Smokey eyes:

It should work with a little blush or bronzer, mascara, and light foundation. If you want to make a big, glitzy statement, this look is ideal for a night out or a special occasion. Start by applying eye primer on the skin around the eyes for an even surface. Next apply concealer, this will help create the perfect clean layer and pop you intend to bring out of the smokey eyes.

As a beginner it’s advisable to use a brown shade as base, choose other colors of your choice and blend to contour the eyes. Finally, Create a small wing that extends only to cover the smokey tip then connect the outer wing with the lower lash line. To bring out a fully framed bright-looking smokey-eye look. Combine this eye look with a nude lip.

The important thing is to practice and try different looks. Remember to have fun and don’t be scared to experiment with different colors or ways!

Kidman wore her hair loose in soft, natural curls, complementing her practical travel outfit. She had on a black leather bomber over a fitted black top, paired with wide-leg tan trousers and cream shoes. Oversized sunglasses shielded her eyes, and a Chanel handbag accompanied the look. The ensemble was suitable for travel yet maintained a restrained, tidy quality.

The Best Eyeliners for Older Women That Deliver an Instant Eye Lift

Published

on

For many women, eyeliner is the one product that can instantly change how the face looks. But as the skin around the eyes grows thinner and softer, what used to glide on easily can start to drag or smudge. Finding the right formula becomes less about trends and more about control, comfort, and a line that actually stays put.

Why your eyeliner needs a rethink

Eyelid skin loses firmness and moisture over time, which affects how makeup grips and lasts. That’s why some products that worked in your thirties can feel patchy later on.

Soft pencils or gel-based liners tend to move more smoothly over textured lids. They are less likely to skip or gather in creases and are easier to adjust before they set. Shades like brown, grey, or navy give definition without the harsh contrast of black, which can emphasise shadows rather than shape.

Victoria Beckham Beauty Satin Kajal Liner

Created with a creamy, flexible formula, this pencil glides across the lash line without pulling on delicate skin. Once in place, it sets to a rich, lasting finish that holds its shape through the day. The built-in smudger allows you to soften edges or create depth between the lashes. Shades such as Cocoa, Olive, and Ash work particularly well for an uplifted look that stays natural.

Laura Mercier Tightline Cake Eyeliner

This product is designed for a barely-there approach. Applied with a damp brush at the base of the lashes, it thickens their appearance without a visible line. Because the pigment sits between lashes, it opens the eyes quietly but effectively. It is ideal for anyone who prefers subtle definition and wants to avoid the heaviness of liquid liners.

Charlotte Tilbury Rock ’N’ Kohl

This pencil combines the intensity of kohl with the precision of a gel liner. It moves easily over the skin and sets quickly to prevent transfer. The texture makes it simple to control thickness and direction, so you can lift the outer corner or trace the lashes with accuracy. Shades like Barbarella Brown or Bedroom Black give strength without starkness.

Clinique Quickliner for Eyes

Clinique’s twist-up pencil is made for sensitive eyes and those who want quick, no-fuss definition. It has a smooth, even texture that stays comfortable on the skin. The built-in blending tip lets you soften lines for a gentler finish, while the fragrance-free and ophthalmologist-tested formula means it can be used daily without irritation.

How to apply for a natural lift

Focus colour along the upper lash line to visually raise the eyes.

Use short, light strokes instead of one sweep to prevent skipping.

Try tightlining, filling the gaps between upper lashes, for definition without visible thickness.

Keep the lower lash line softer or skip the inner corner to avoid dragging the eye downward.

Choose tones close to your lash colour for a balanced, fresh look.

These adjustments keep the eye area defined but soft, highlighting shape rather than product.

In summary

The most effective eyeliners for mature eyes combine smooth application with stable colour and gentle ingredients. Brands like Victoria Beckham Beauty, Laura Mercier, Charlotte Tilbury, and Clinique offer formulas that achieve this balance. When applied with a light hand and thoughtful placement, eyeliner does more than outline the eyes; it restores focus and brightness without drawing attention to fine lines.
