The British royal family gathered at Windsor Castle on Monday for the annual Order of the Garter ceremony, with Princess Kate joining King Charles and Queen Camilla for an unannounced appearance at the event.

Known as Garter Day, the occasion is a major fixture in the royal calendar. Held each June at Windsor Castle, it celebrates the Order of the Garter, Britain’s oldest and most senior order of chivalry, founded by King Edward III in 1348.

While King Charles, Prince William and other members of the order wore the traditional blue velvet robes and feathered hats associated with the centuries-old ceremony, Princess Kate was among the most closely watched attendees. Her attendance had not been announced in advance, and she joined other senior royals at Windsor for the event.

Kate watched the procession led by the King. Although she is not a member of the Order of the Garter, she was attending the ceremony for the tenth time.

For this year’s event, the Princess of Wales wore a custom butter-yellow coat dress by British designer Patrick McDowell. The outfit was created using silk damask woven by textile manufacturer Stephen Walters & Sons. She completed the look with a wide-brimmed hat, neutral accessories and the diamond earrings she wore on her wedding day to Prince William in 2011.

Over the years, the MOBO Awards became an important platform for artists including Stormzy, Dave, Craig David and Little Simz. The ceremony also reflected the growing popularity of genres such as grime and Afrobeats, helping to bring wider attention to artists working within those genres.

King’s contribution to music and culture was recognised in 2018 when she was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).
